Lactation Philosophy

Breastfeeding is the biological norm. Breastfeeding is a biological joy that is rooted in abundance. Breastfeeding is part of our DNA. Most moms and babies should be able to breastfeed. There are occasional medical reasons that breastfeeding doesn’t work. Nature isn’t perfect.

Breastfeeding is a common term that can include so many forms of lactation and providing human milk for human babies. Lactation can include latching baby, pumping and bottle feeding, hand expressing, tube feeding, cup feeding, syringe feeding, using a supplemental nursing system, using donor milk, and other variations.

Breastfeeding can come with a variety of challenges. Breastfeeding comes with a learning curve for both mom and baby. Breastfeeding can be redemptive and healing. Breastfeeding is biologically best for both mom and baby.

My journey to becoming a Certified Lactation Counselor and a Certified Breastfeeding Educator began after my first son was born. We saw five lactation professionals and finally the sixth one was able to help us. It’s then that I knew I wanted to be as good if not better than that sixth lactation professional that finally helped us. As a mom and a lactation specialist, I have experienced just about every single lactation challenge you can think of. I have specialized continuing education training in tethered oral tissues aka tongue ties and use a team approach with trusted community partners including pediatric dentists, bodywork professionals, and Speech Language Pathologists to name a few.

Each lactation journey is unique and requires dedication and support. Follow up care is an essential component of achieving your lactation goals. Especially in the early days when each feed is a little bit different.

The best time to seek lactation support is during pregnancy! Mothers that invest in personalized prenatal education are more likely to initiate breastfeeding and achieve their goals.
